Larry Ray Kilgore

<p>Larry R. Kilgore, a lifetime resident of Kansas City, Missouri passed away Thursday, November,<br /> 19th at St. Joseph Medical Center at the age of 64.<br /> Larry was born in Kansas City in 1956 to Mary Jane and John (Jack) Kilgore. He graduated<br /> from Bishop Hogan High School in 1974. He quickly gained employment at Kansas City Public<br /> Works. He ultimately transferred to KC Parks and Recreation and served the city for 34 years<br /> before retiring as a Principal Engineering Technician in 2010. After retirement, he spent time<br /> operating Kilgore Lawn and Landscape as both a landscaping and snow removal service.<br /> Larry was preceded in death by brothers (John, Bill, and Chris), as well as his parents Mary<br /> Jane Kilgore and Jack Kilgore. He is survived in death by his long time partner Julie Akers. Two<br /> daughters, Amie (Aaron) Tompkins and Stephanie (Vern) Peterson. His favorite role in life was<br /> being the best Grampy to his four grandchildren, Neeva Tompkins, Aubrey Peterson, Rubie<br /> Tompkins, and Adam Peterson. Larry leaves many other beloved family members including his<br /> brother, David (Vickie), sisters Tiffany (Bill) and Angela (Court), and his ex-wife Sherri whom he<br /> remained close as they raised a family together and shared the joy of being grandparents. Larry<br /> made everyone smile. He leaves behind many cousins, dear friends, and an enormous amount<br /> of nieces and nephews, as he was affectionately known as Uncle Larry to many loved ones in<br /> his family and Julie&rsquo;s alike.<br /> Larry lived his life to the fullest; always happy and making others laugh. He loved cruises and<br /> road trips across the country (the closer to Las Vegas the better). He spent many weekends not<br /> only watching but also driving race cars and motorcycles at KCIR. Larry enjoyed years of<br /> playing in pool leagues both as a way to perfect his game and to socialize (the man lived to joke<br /> and tell stories) and he made many decade long friendships with his teammates. He enjoyed<br /> spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks: fishing, skiing, boating, or eating dinner at his favorite<br /> restaurant, Tres Hombres. But his favorite activity of all was spending time with his four<br /> grandchildren, as they were truly the light of his life. Larry will be deeply missed by his family,<br /> friends, and all who knew him.</p> <p><br /> A visitation is scheduled for Sunday, November, 29th from 12-2pm at Johnson County Chapel<br /> 11200 Metcalf Ave. Overland Park, KS 66210.</p> <p>A funeral service will be held Monday, November 30th at 10:30 am at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church 777 NE Blackwell Rd, Lee&#39;s Summit, MO 64086.
