Jack Arnold Brown Obituary

On Sunday, November 22, 2020, Jack A Brown, loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, & great grandfather passed away at age 83 from complications he contracted from the coronavirus. Jack was born on December 27, 1936 in Washington DC to Jack & Edna Brown. He would move to Cincinnati Ohio in 1955 and marry his 1st wife Loretta Coy, and have 3 children Jackie Bosco, Jack S Brown, & Paul D Brown. He would divorce in 1976 and remarry in 1978 to Sue E Bingham, who added 2 daughters to Jack’s life, Shanda Harris & Lora Newman. While Jack lived in many locations over his life (Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, & Ohio) he would always call Cincinnati home. Jack had a passion for building from an early age. He continued that passion by joining the Bricklayers Union in 1957. He would go on to start J & J Contractors in 1968, becoming one of the largest masonry contractors in the Greater Cincinnati Area. He built such projects as the Hamilton County Justice Center, the first expansion to the Cincinnati Convention Center (including the reconstruction of the 120 year old Albee Arch facade), UC Law Library, UC Science & Engineering building, University Hospital, UC Geology building, Edge Cliff Towers, along with 100’s of other schools, hospitals, and municipal facilities in his long a lustrous career. While Jack had a passion for being well dressed during business hours, he was never more at home than when he was on a large project, in work clothes, organizing the operations of his employees on a daily basis. He was known for his compassionate spirit & kindness, but also his hard nose approach to completing his work. All who worked for him came to appreciate his professionalism and commitment to excellence. Jack’s legacy will be the buildings he gave his heart and soul to complete, and to those individuals whom he helped teach the craft of masonry. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Sue Brown, his brothers Gordon and Richard Brown, and his daughter Jackie Bosco. He is survived by his children Jack S (Jackie) Brown, Paul (Mary) Brown, Shanda (Brian) Harris, & Lora (Joe) Newman, his Brothers & Sisters Nancy Moulton, Carl (Norma) Brown, Norma Ford, Jeanette (Chuck) Chichester, & Greg (Corie) Brown, and numerous grandchildren, Great grandchildren, nieces & nephews, & relatives. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 issues, a celebration of life will be at a later time in the upcoming year.
