Roy Lee Smith Obituary

Roy Lee Smith, Jr., 87, of White Hall, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 22, 2020.

He was born March 18, 1933, in Pine Bluff to Roy Lee Smith, Sr. and Thora Jane Woods Smith.

He received his early education from Hardin School and graduated from White Hall High School. While at White Hall he received the Citizenship Award, voted best athlete, was the President of the Senior Class and Captain of the football team his senior year.

He received a degree in accounting from Furr School of Business and went to work for AP&L (Entergy) in 1951.

During this time, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. While in the military he rose to the rank of Sargent.

After returning he went back to AP&L and retired in 1995 as a Senior Auto Hydraulic Mechanic.

He was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church.

Roy had several hobbies. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in the gardening and yard with his wife and doing woodwork.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Martha Ann Lawhon Smith, whom he married on December 24, 1953 and his parents.

Survivors include a son, Roy Keith Smith of the Hardin Community; daughters, Gayla Smith of White Hall and Melody Contreras and husband, Danny of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Mandy Armstrong and husband Josh of White Hall, Jamie Law of White Hall, Sami Jo Rose of Little Rock, Samuel L. Contreras of Houston, Texas; great-grandchildren, Jake Law of White Hall, Zane Armstrong of White Hall, Cooper Law of White Hall, Gunner Rose of Little Rock; brothers, Buddy Smith of Lamar, Larry Smith of the Hardin Community, Phillip Smith of White Hall; sisters, Betty Schmidt of Sheridan, Ellen Liles of Sheridan, Janie Carnes of the Hardin Community, Jean Blackerby of Missouri and other family members, Zach Parsley of White Hall and Eric Parsley of White Hall.

Graveside service by Ralph Robinson & Son will be Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at 2:00 P.M., in Memorial Park Cemetery with Reverend Tony Lawhon officiating.
