Vere Yvonne Bowser, 96, a resident of the Cornelius community, died Saturday morning, November 21, 2020 in Cornelius. VERE YVONNE BOWSER was born on May 10, 1924 in Grants Pass, Oregon, the daughter of the late Reginald Barnett and Adeline (Easton) Barnett. She attended Grants Pass grade schools and graduated from Grants Pass High School Class of 1942. She married her high school sweetheart Gene Bowser on November 8, 1942. He was called up for duty in December 1942. Yvonne joined him at the different training locations in the States. They saw many different parts of the country and enjoyed the opportunity to be together as long as they could. When he left the States, she returned to Grants Pass to work until he came home in December 1945. They then moved to Forest Grove so he could attend Pacific University. Yvonne went to work for West Coast Telephone Company in February 1947 as an operator on the old switch boards. She was later promoted to Customer Records Supervisor and relocated to the Beaverton District Office. She continued working under General Telephone Co. and when the Cornelius Office was opened, she was transferred there as a Customer Service Supervisor. She remained at that location until she retired in April 1982. Gene and Yvonne both retired at that time and started traveling in their RV’s. They both loved the beach and spent many hours beachcombing. They camped every summer in Gold Beach to fish for Salmon and visit with the many friends in the camp. She was a member of Eastern Star, Forest Grove Elkettes, Daughters of the Nile, Nile Temple Pagent Dancer, Forest Hills Nile Club, Volunteered at the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, Volunteered at the Masonic Home/Jennings McCall Center for thirty years, unpacking, cleaning and pricing items for the different sales. She also volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in Forest Grove. Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, her parents and her brother. Survivors include her three nieces, Debra Temple, of Ontario, California; Shirleen Wallace, of Fernley, Nevada and Barbara Kramer, of Gasquet, California; her nephew, Ron Franz, of Copperopolis, California; her cousin, Dorrie Newton, of Corte Madera, California, her sister-in-law, Arleen Barnett, of Milwaukie, Oregon and special friends, Bob and Marlene Mills, of Forest Grove, Oregon.
