Richard L. Payne Obituary

Richard Lee Payne of Bourbon, MO was born on Saturday, June 12, 1951 in St. Louis, MO to Elwood Yates Payne and Mildred Odessa (Robinson) Payne.  He passed away at Mercy Hospital-Jefferson in Festus, MO on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the age of 69 years, 5 months and 9 days.

Richard attended McKinley High School in St. Louis, MO.  He married Eileen “Gail” Hutson on July 14, 1972 in Steelville, MO and to this union seven children were born.  He worked at Steelweld Equipment Company in St. Clair, MO for many years and later at Simmerly Sawmill in Bourbon, MO. Richard loved to watch TV; anything about classic cars, Andy Griffith, and old westerns, especially Gunsmoke and Bonanza. His favorite cartoon was Tom & Jerry. He enjoyed going to car shows, races, and tractor pulls. He liked to fish, but more so to look at the bounty of wild game his family harvested. Most of all, Richard loved his family, especially his grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Richard will be remembered by his family for his humming, goofiness, and overall cheerful personality.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elwood and Mildred Payne; ex-wife Gail Payne and oldest son, Richard “Ricky” Payne.

He is survived by his children Jamie Payne (companion Julie) of Bourbon, MO, Tonja (Andy) Beakley and Christy (Daniel) Young both of St. James, MO, Rhonda (Mark) Rowden of Leasburg, MO, Jeremy Payne of Licking, MO and Timothy (Tabatha) Payne of Bolivar, MO; siblings Larry Payne of Sullivan, MO, David (Judy) Payne and Linda Lee both of Bourbon, MO; grandchildren Lucas (Abby), Rayanna, Quentin, Jacob (Jesse), Nick, Megan, Chauntel, Blake, Wyatt and Dylan; great granddaughter Ellzie; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, November 27, 2020 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO. Funeral Service immediately followed with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating.  The family chose cremation as his final disposition.  Memorials may be given to the National Kidney Foundation (1001 Craig Rd Ste #480  St. Louis, MO 63146).
