Frank Powers Obituary

Francis I. Powers 1934 – 2020 Frank Powers, 86, of Rockton IL, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 of a sudden illness. He was born in Peoria, IL on June 8, 1934. He is predeceased by his first wife, Rita (Anderson) Powers. In his youth, he was a caretaker at the Carmelite Monastery, located in Des Plaines IL, and took part in the facility addition and property improvements. Frank was a brilliant architectural engineer employed at The Austin Company. He enjoyed golf, chess, and was an accomplished artist. He was an avid gun collector and a member of the 1000-yard target club in Kansas City, MO. Frank was best described as a “free spirit” and was well-liked by everyone. He was proud of his Irish heritage and frequently enjoyed a beverage at the local (or non-local) tavern. He was famous for having a story for every occasion - fact checking was prohibited and fun was usually had by all. In his later years, Frank retired his drinking uniform and became a devoted member of AA. During his participation there, he helped many others through their addictions. He will be missed. He is survived by his 7 children, Bill Powers (Teresa), Karen O’Connor (Dan), Sue Powers (Mike Lazzerini), Mary Forrest (Steve), Frank Powers (Tammy), Tony Powers (Lori), Shasonta Delmage (Dale) along with his 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; his 3 brothers, Joe Powers (Mary Ann, deceased), Jerry Powers (Barbara, deceased), Tom Powers (Mary), Special thanks to the staff at Highview Woodlands, where Frank spent his last years. They were extremely attentive, making that last chapter in his life comfortable and happy. Ecclesiasticus; “My child, support your father in his old age, do not grieve him during his life. Even if his mind should fail, show him sympathy, do not despise him in your health and strength; for kindness to a father will not be forgotten………” A private family Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, November 24, 2020. Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, 211E. Brink St., Harvard IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carmelite Monastery in Des Plaines, Illinois.
