James Roy Fenn Obituary

James Roy Fenn, 94 of Bluffton, SC, formerly of Cheswick, PA, born October 25, 1926 in Verona, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on November 20, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was a wonderful husband, and proud father of 3 children, grandfather of 5 and great-grandfather of 5. He lived a full life with his loving wife of over 71 years, Audrey Kuchta Fenn.

Jim enlisted in the United States Navy when he was 17 to fight in WWII. He was a radioman first class stationed in Panama. After the war he took up his carpentry apprenticeship with Alcoa. He became a construction superintendent in the Pittsburgh area and was responsible for many projects including schools, hospitals and malls.

Jim and Audrey traveled extensively throughout the US and Europe and loved cruising.   Jim was a very talented singer, well known in the Alle Kiski Valley and St. Alphonsus Church in Springdale, PA and St. Gregory The Great in Bluffton, SC. His Irish tenor voice was much in demand for relative’s and friend’s weddings and funerals.  Jim’s other passions were golf, playing cards, and his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a skilled and talented carpenter who built not only his own home but his son’s as well and many other projects for family and friends.  He and Audrey volunteered for many years as drivers for Meals On Wheels in both Springdale, PA and Bluffton, SC.

He is survived by his wife Audrey, children James Michael Fenn of Hilton Head Island, SC, Marianne (Denny) Smith of Bluffton, SC, Maureen (Alan) Bird of Parker, CO, grandchildren Jennifer Garten, Michelle Cain, Alexander Smith, Kathleen Bird and Jaclynn Bird,  great grandchildren Aiden, Austin, Marley, Madison and Logan , who called him “Great-O” or Pappy.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Gregory The Great Parish, Bluffton, SC on Tuesday November 24, 2020 at 10:30 AM. All are welcome to attend. However, no reception will be held because of Covid restrictions. His ashes will be interred at the Resurrection Garden of St. Gregory The Great at a later date.
