Martha Bay

Martha Mary Bay (Grix) passed away peacefully on November 21, 2020. Born on April 30, 1929 she was the youngest and only daughter of Harriet and Urban Grix. She was frequently referred to as "The Duchess" within the family. Martha graduated from The Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak in 1947. She later graduated from Marygrove College in Detroit in 1951 with a degree in education. She then started teaching in St. Martin's in Detroit. Martha was the loving wife of Raymond Anthony Bay for over 40 years. Martha and Ray moved to Petoskey in the early 70's where they established "Bays Restaurant" on Mitchell Street. In addition helpinghelping out at the restaurant, Martha also continued to be a grade school teacher, was involved in the Petoskey Garden Club, and found time to keep her grandkids well supplied with cookies. She is survived by her only child Martin Anthony (Susan). She was a proud grandmother of Thomas, Sarah (Christopher), and Jonathan. She also had the joy of knowing two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth Marie and Lillian Grace. She also is survived by her sister-in-law Eddie Grix and many nieces and nephews. At a future date there will be a memorial service. In lieu of flowers donations in Martha Mary's name may be made to the Gleaners.
