Louetta "Joann" Ellis, 84, of Quincy, IL, passed away at 11:40 am Thursday, November 19, 2020 at her sister's home in Maywood, MO. A graveside service will be at 1:00 pm Monday, November 23, 2020 at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy. Pastor Marlin Rempfer will officiate. Illinois COVID-19 guidelines will be followed, including requiring face masks and social distancing. A private family visitation will be held at the O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy. Joann was born October 26, 1936, in Quincy, IL to James "Doc" A. and Vivian W. Martin Clapp. She was married to Vernon Wayne Ellis, Sr. on March 26, 1955 at Central Baptist Church in Quincy. He preceded her in death on November 8, 2020. Survivors include two children, Vernon "Vern" Ellis, Jr. (Mary) and Laura Cain (Tom); three grandchildren, Timothy Ellis, Amy Ellis, and Joshua Manley; one step-grandson, Ryan Hudson; one sister, Janet K. Clark; and one brother, James M. Clapp. In addition to her husband, Joann was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Leslie Manley (William); and one brother, J. Victor Clapp. Joann was a homemaker, avid gardener, and enjoyed reading and working on jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she had a spectacular collection of Hallmark ornaments. She was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a part of their "Katie's Ladies" group that helped provide bereavement dinners. Joann was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Pallbearers will be Joshua Manley, Dakota Cross, and Tom Cain. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Parkinson's Foundation.
