Harry E. Haugen
<p>With a song in his heart and a prayer on his lips, Harry Edward Haugen, 86, went to meet his Lord and Savior on November 19, 2020. He was reunited with his beloved son, Brian, his parents, and his siblings: Don (Joanne), Bill (Judy, Joanne) Haugen, Helen (Henry) Seyer; sister-in-law Mary (Don) Wheeler; and brother-in-law Reidar (Kathleen) Gabrielson.</p> <p>He was born to Harry and Helen (Corrigan) Haugen on January 29, 1934 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Harry attended St. Patrick's Grade School and High School, graduating in 1952. He played basketball, football, and was active in musical productions. In 1954 he was inducted into the Army, sent to Germany as a medic, and was honorably discharged in 1956. Upon his return he went to Minneapolis and attended the Minnesota School of Business, graduating in 1962.</p> <p>Harry began his banking career at Northwest National Bank, and it was there that he met the love of his life, Eleanor Wheeler. And that was the beginning of a beautiful love story. They were married for 58 years and welcomed four children: Shawn, Kevin (Sara), Brian (Alexia), and Colleen (Steven). In 1966, the family relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona. Harry continued his banking career at Valley National Bank, and as the manager facilitated the opening of the McCormick Ranch branch office. He later was employed at Wells Fargo.</p> <p>He was an active and devoted member of St. Maria Goretti Parish, serving as president of the Parish council. His Catholic faith and active prayer life was the basis of Harry's life; it sustained him and blessed him with an incredible family. Harry loved to sing, write poems, and created miniature buildings. He was actively involved in his children's sports and was a member of the Gerard Booster Club. Harry was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a beloved Papa, with a kind and generous spirit. He had a beautiful tenor voice, and "Danny Boy" was his theme song; now he has joined the heavenly choir.</p> <p>In addition to his children and their spouses, Harry is survived by his loving wife, Ellie; his sister Kathleen Gabrielson; brothers-in-law Don and George (Geri) Wheeler; several nieces and nephews; and eleven grandchildren, the "light" of his life: Mackenzie, Connor, Collin, Casey, Aidan, Lucas, Zachary, Aleena Haugen, and Sierra, Addison, and Samantha Schulz.</p> <p>A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Maria Goretti Parish at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 27, 2020, with burial following at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
