Green Sea, South Carolina On Wednesday, November 18, 2020, Eugene Jackson (79) of Green Sea, SC passed away at Duke University Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in 1941 to farmers and business owners Aubrey Brooks and Tressie Todd Jackson, (now deceased), Gene was the youngest of eleven children. He attended Green Sea High School through 11th grade, then transferred to Tabor City High where he played basketball, football, and baseball, graduating in 1959. He received his BS from UNC Pembroke and Masters from Winthrop University. He began his career teaching two years at Loris High School, then the next 28 teaching chemistry and physics at Floyds and Green Sea Floyds High School. He communicated his love of chemistry and physics to his students in the classroom and through helping them to win science fairs and brain game tournaments on the local, state, and national levels. He was a member of Green Sea Baptist Church and served as a deacon for over twenty years. He loved God, his family, his students, his beloved mountain house, researching genealogy, and doing things for other people. Gene is survived by the love of his life, wife and best friend of nearly 55 years, Sharon “Susie” McPherson; three children, Todd (Cheryl), Georgiana, and Jason (Colleen), and two sweet granddaughters, Romalea (8) and Kaira (5); brothers, Brooks (Patricia), and Bruce; sister, Louise Martin; sisters-in-law, Lois Jackson and Arlene Jackson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Gene is predeceased by brothers: Earl (killed in WWII), Frank and his wife Jean, Jim, and Austin; sisters: Ruby Lee Dorman (Elwood Dorman), Flora Mae Simmons (Fred), Lois Summerford (Bill); sister-in-law: Edna Jackson. The family would like to offer a heartfelt “Thank you” to everyone for their tremendous outpouring of love, support, and prayers. The family will be receiving visitors at 2 PM on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Green Sea Baptist Church Fellowship Hall followed by a celebration of life service at 3 PM at Green Sea Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Brust officiating. Committal services will follow at Green Sea Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Green Sea Cemetery Fund at PO Box 62, Green Sea, SC 29545.
