Princeton - Charlotte Pearl (James) Melanson passed away peacefully at her home in Princeton on November 18 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband, Herbert Melanson, of 62 years. Herbert has lovingly cared for her during her last five years. Charlotte was predeceased by her parents, Mary McKenzie James and Cash James and Josephine Melanson and Rene Melanson; brother Alvin James, half-brothers Stephen James, Donald James, Clarence James; half-sister Muriel Smith; brother in-laws Dennis Melanson and Albert Melanson; sister-in-law Leah Durfy. She is survived by her sisters Beulah Lane and husband John, Mary Moholland, and Arlene Roussel and husband Imon; sister-in-laws Annette Melanson and Betty Monk and husband Greg; and a half-brother Franklin James. Charlotte is survived by five daughters: Jeannie Ferry and husband Robert of Princeton, Laurie Greenlaw and husband James of Grove City, OH, Renee O’Neill and companion Peter Cordner of Orono, Wendy Melanson and companion John Shute of Princeton, Holly Melanson and companion Gilbert Mattheson of Dennysville, and one son Herbert Melanson, Jr. and wife Alison of Orono. Charlotte’s grandchildren are Robert Ferry Jr. and wife Jessica of Hallowell, Michelle Ripley and husband Carl of Baileyville, Melissa Stamper and husband Jared of Grove City, OH, Matthew Greenlaw of Rochester, NY, Nathan O’Neill and wife Ava (plus baby Ted due in December) of Boise, ID; Jeffrey Jones and fiancé Chelsey Plourde of Ft. Kent, Lauren and Andrew Melanson of Orono, and Christopher Plissey of Princeton. Her great-grandchildren are Brooklyn and Austin Ferry of Hallowell; Jameson and Maverick Stamper of Grove City, OH; and Sophia and Avery Ripley of Baileyville. Plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Charlotte has always put her children and grandchildren first. She was an amazing mother, and a very sweet and thoughtful person. Throughout her life she has enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling. Charlotte’s favorite pastime was Bingo and she was very lucky at it too. Wintertime meant it was basketball season, which she loved attending and cheering for the Woodland Dragons. She loved attending country music concerts from Johnny Cash to Luke Bryan. Her dream vacation to Nashville came to fruition in 1996. She was literally on cloud nine during that trip. She made many trips to Nova Scotia, New York State and Florida. She was just as excited as her children when they arrived at Disney World. Our hearts are broken, but Charlotte’s memory lives on in everyone that knew her. We love you Charlotte (Mom & Nana)!
