Max Wentworth Willimantic, Connecticut Obituary

Max Wentworth

Max H Wentworth, 63, of Scotland, CT passed away on November 8, 2020. Max was born in Putnam, CT on October 26, 1957 to Eva and Maxcel Wentworth. She leaves behind her partner of over 28 years, Chris Demorit, her two sisters Alice Wentworth of Brattleboro, VT, and Dot Wentworth of Easthampton, MA and her brother Bill Wentworth of Pahoa, Hawaii. Max spent the last 25 years as a Professor of Math at Three Rivers Community College in Norwich, CT. In addition, she tutored students at Eastern CT State University for the last 10 years. She worked at many jobs over the years: taxi driver, cabinet maker, at the Jimmy Carters Young Adult Conservation Corps camp, Rogers Corp, Jack In The Box in Austin, Texas, and for the City of Austin, Texas as a mapper. She baked bread in Fayetteville, Arkansas at the University of Arkansas and at Caprilands in Coventry, CT. She worked at the Willimantic Food Coop, at the Needle Exchange Program in Willimantic, and as a farmer at Good Earth Organic Farm in Putnam, CT, among many others. Max consumed news obsessively, especially news of a political nature. This is why she became a longtime activist and organizer for peace and justice. When she was a member of the Northeast CT Coalition for Peace and Justice, she organized countless buses to rallies in New York and Washington D.C. She was also active with the Connecticut Green Party for years, and served as treasurer to many a campaign. She also helped out at the Covenant Soup Kitchen in Willimantic, and served on their board of directors for many years. Max loved nature. She was an avid hiker and visited so many national and state parks across the US, as well as hiking at many small locales. She hiked the entirety of the Nipmuck and Natchaug Trails in Northeastern Connecticut. She took thousand upon thousands of pictures over her life, mostly of nature (and cats). She was a gardener who processed so many vegetables. She was an amazing cook, who loved to bring happiness to people through good food. Max was deeply loved and will be missed dearly. There will be a celebration of her life in the spring. To send an online expression of sympathy, please visit www.adamscremationct.com Adams Cremation of Willimantic is serving the family.
