Overseer Leroy McPherson Edwards was born at Spanish Town hospital, Spanish Town St. Catherine Jamaica, to Alice Maude Brown and William Edwards on the 16th August 1940. He grew up in the Jackson district of St. Catherine where he graduated from Sligo Ville All Age School and learned the honorable trade of carpentry, working with his father. He migrated to England from 1960-1977, where he met the love of his life, Ermine Massop, in Birmingham, England and they married November 17, 1961. Together they were blessed with five children, Norma Williams (deceased), Claudette (Jean) Bailey, Michael Edwards, Angela (Dawn) Robertson and Marcia (Sandra) Lewis. He migrated to the United States of America, May 14th, 1977. Mr. Edwards was the proprietor of Edwards and Son, a construction business, here in Paterson for more than two decades. He was well-known, a man of integrity, with a great sense of humor and no-nonsense attitude, so much so, that he was instrumental in the planning, negotiation, purchasing and remodeling of the current True Witness Church of Jesus Christ (Apostolic) at 377 Hamilton Ave. In 1981, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and attended the True Witness Church of Jesus Christ (Apostolic) in Paterson NJ; and had such a zeal for saving souls and building the kingdom of God, he was quickly ordained a Deacon, then an Elder and President of the Brotherhood Department for over twenty years. As a strong supporter of the gospel, he was greatly privileged to travel extensively at home and internationally, and in 2002, he was ordained Overseer of the True Witness International Fellowship and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. In 2006, he and his wife migrated to Lithonia, Georgia, where he led the construction efforts to erect the True Witness Church of Jesus Christ (Apostolic) located at 1410 Rogers Lake Rd, Lithonia GA. Overseer Edwards transitioned from time to eternity on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Ermine, and four children, Claudette, Michael, Angela and Marcia. Two brothers, Mr. Arthur "Boy" Brown and Mr. Keith Edwards and two sisters Mrs. Pamela Gordon, and Ms. Claudette Edwards, 12 Grandchildren, 20 Great grandchildren, and a host nieces, nephews and spiritual children from all over the world. He will be dearly missed by all!
