Janet Lorraine Anctil Sutton Obituary

Janet Lorraine Anctil Sutton September 26, 1928 – November 14, 2020 Janet Sutton, 92, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on November 14, 2020 surrounded by her family. Janet was born on September 26, 1928 to Albert and Amanda Anctil in Los Angeles, California, where her father had a Pharmacy. Her first language was french as both of her parents were French Canadian. Janet was an excellent student. and rapidly finished elementary and high school. At 16, Janet started at the University of Southern California (USC) and graduated with a degree in pharmacy, following in the footsteps of many of her relatives. While working in the soda counter at her uncle’s pharmacy, Albert Sutton purposefully came in for a cup of coffee. This was the beginning of their 64 year romance. Albert and Janet were married on February 18, 1950. Janet had spent all of her life in the same house in Los Angeles, but that changed once Janet married Albert. In June of 1950 they moved to Portland Oregon and over the next 30 years they moved seven times in five states while Albert built up his financial career. After each move Janet lovingly made each house a home for the family. The homes were beautifully decorated for family enjoyment and many hours were spent around the game table at night and on weekends. Janet loved crafts, collecting unique items, trying out new recipes, and working in her gardens. Janet was an early follower of nutritious eating and composting. She was an excellent cook and famous for her unique creations. We loved her kumquat jam, lime marmalade, marinated shrimp, fruit salad with white chocolate, and cherry chip cookies. Fruit and vegetable gardens in the back yards provided much of the food eaten. Janet had a calm and gentle nature and a love of all animals. She was happiest with a cat or dog in her lap. In 1979 Janet and Albert made their final move to Carlsbad, California and settled down to enjoy many years close to all their children and grandchildren. Many happy occasions were celebrated in Carlsbad with the entire family, providing memories that will be forever remembered. A special thanks to Nina and Chonabelle for the long term loving care and family support they provided. Janet was proud to call them her roommates and they spent many hours together tending the garden, watching the ocean, and sharing fancy meals together. In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by her husband Albert in 2013 and her sister Vivian in 1972. Janet is survived by her three loving daughters, Lorraine (Terry) Ballentine of Venice Beach, CA, Mary (Robert) Hansen of Oceanside, CA, and Susan (Cary) Mells of Rancho Santa Fe, CA; five very lucky grandchildren, Amanda (Conor) Harding, Michael Hansen, A.J. Mells, Trevor (Robin) Mells, and Quinton Mells; and two adorable great-grandchildren, Harper and Finn Harding. In accordance with pandemic restrictions, a family Mass will be held by Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church Carlsbad, CA followed by burial at Eternal Hills Memorial Park Oceanside CA.
