Bernadine McKinney

Bernadine W. McKinney was born on April 20, 1927 in Havre de Grace, MD to the late Harry and Mary Williams. She was married to the late Johnette McKinney. She was the eldest of six children. Bernadine was educated in the Public Schools of Hartford County and graduated from Havre de Grace Colored High School on June 8, 1944. She departed this life on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Future Care Nursing Home, Randallstown, MD.<br/><br/>She loved the Lord and was a lifelong devoted member of St. James AME Church. In her younger years, she served as Sunday School Teacher and was a member of the Chancellor Choir until her health declined. She was the Family Historian and loved to take pictures; as well as share her wisdom and wit. Bernadine was also an active member of and a Past Matron of Evening Star Chapter 20 Myra Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star P.H.A. State of Maryland and its Jurisdiction.<br/><br/>She was employed at Perry Point VA Medical Center (Perry Point Hospital) for 30 years, retiring in 1984. She received numerous awards and accolades for exemplary job performance.<br/><br/>Bernadine was the mother to six children, and they were her greatest joy. She was affectionately known as Mom, Mom Bernie to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their friends. Her oldest daughter Gwendolyn Morgan preceded her in death in 2016. <br/><br/>She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Roosevelt Turner, Jr. (Sharon), Abingdon, MD; Malcolm Brown, Sr. (Lucile), Middletown, DE, three daughters, Patricia Graham (David), Hyattsville, MD, Helen Christy and Quida Graham, Baltimore County, MD; son-in-law, Vernon Morgan, brother-in-law, Larry Robinson, an endearing niece, Lois Lawrence and extended family bonus son, Cedric Brown, Sr.. She was the Matriarch of her family (5 generations) and leaves 11 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren; one brother Joseph Williams (sister-in-law Constance Williams) and her beloved sister, Claudia Whitfield, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Lawrence and Christine Walker and her brother, Harry Williams, Jr.<br/>
