Obituary
Arsenius (Speed) Flesner, age 90, went to be with Jesus at approximately 5:00 PM Friday, November 13, 2020 in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. Arsenius was born June 8, 1930 in Quincy, Illinois, the oldest child of Ernest Wilbur and Katie Marie (Paben) Flesner. He married Eleanor (Tripp) on September 9, 1955 in Quincy, Illinois. She survives. Arsenius graduated from Seymour High School in Payson in 1948. He was engaged in farming before starting his career working for Interstate Producers Livestock Association for 25 years. He held several titles there - Branch Manager, Personnel Coordinator, and District Manager. He oversaw the complete construction of two new stockyards at Payson and Apple River, Illinois. His most enjoyable years were spent buying hogs locally, at which he had a natural ability after three or four days of actual training. Arsenius loved and treasured the many customers, employees and lifetime friends he accumulated. After retiring from IPLA, he continued working for Adams County Livestock Buyers for 11 years, where he made more friends. Both before and after his retirement, Arsenius enjoyed camping with family members and friends, attending Bluegrass Festivals, Gospel Music Concerts, and going to the local Old Time Country Music shows. He also enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with family and friends. Arsenius attended Plainville United Methodist Church for many years where he served on the Building Committee and helped with church suppers. Most recently, he attended Faith Presbyterian Church where he loved and cherished his church family there. He had a passion for his cattle, which he said was “just a hobby.” Every day he checked on them and gave them great care. After his health deteriorated, he still enjoyed watching them from the window. Most of all, Arsenius was very proud of his family and loved spending time with each and every one of them. Arsenius is survived by his wife Eleanor; his children: Mike Flesner (Tina), Vickie Walters (Jim), Vaughn Flesner (Kathy), Melanie Schrand (Allan), and Dixie Kinnee (Ken Berry); 15 grandchildren: Erin Elmore (Steven), Emily Beaver (Ryan), Melinda Cole (Chris), Megan Meyer (Anthony), Morgan Long, Quest Flesner (Amanda), Dakota Lafferty (Michael), Harlee Gronewold (Emery), Hunter Flesner, Brekken DuPont, Kamryn Flesner, Alex Schrand, Lucy Bennett (Michael), Jonathan Schrand and Lydia Schrand; and 13 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.
