Virgil Lee Grass, Sr. was born in Pine Ridge, SD to Duffy, Jr. and Doris Grass on November 29, 1979. Virgil passed away at home in Batesland, SD on November 12, 2020. Virgil is survived by his two children, Gabriella Grass and Virgil Grass, Jr., his significant other, Kim Thunder Bull; mother, Doris Grass; sisters, Dee Anderson and Madonna Crouse; brother, Duffy Grass III; hunka sister, Monica White Face-Robateau; hunka brothers, Jason (Naomi) Dillon, Sr., Derek (Deb) Bettelyoun, and Garould “Iggy” White Face; aunt, Cindy Grass; life long friends that became brothers growing up together, Eric Conroy, Travis Fancher, Charlie Pablo, John Black Calf, and Tony Running Hawk; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Virgil grew up in Batesland, SD until the family moved to Gordon, NE. He lived in Gordon for the majority of his life until he became sick. His mother brought him home to Batesland. Virgil was known for his big smile, crazy jokes, and stories and contagious laughter. Virgil was a friend to everyone. Virgil was preceded in death by his father, Duffy Grass, Jr.; sisters, Nicole Jean Woman Dress and Roberta Crouse; uncles, Conrad Grass, Luther Grass, Byron Grass, Harlan Grass, Aldo John Grass, and Carey Grass; aunts, Wilma Grass, Silveretta Standing Elk, and Mildred Grass; grandparents, Duffy Grass, Sr. and Daisy Fork In Butte-Grass, and Florence Blue Bird and Ralph Bear Killer, Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be Alvina Conquering Bear & Family, Frieda & Tom Brings, Ruby Schoder, Sandra Charging Thunder, John No Leaf & Family, Alice Lamont, Lucy & Conrad Grass, Tina, Lana, & Cody Grass, Willard Grinnell, Tilly & Twila Standing Elk, and All other Family & Friends.
