<p>Dr. Frederick George Walz Jr. (Fred) fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday, November 10 at University Hospital of Portage County.&nbsp; Fred was born May 11, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Mildred Walz, sister Mary Jane Bonner and brother Joseph Walz. He is survived by siblings Cathy Jack, Judith Flynn and Rod Walz.&nbsp; He leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 years, Julia and his children Jacqui (Bob) Fetsko, Fred Walz III, Jennifer (Paul) Ciskanik, Judy Rose, Becky (Adam) Irving, Andrew (Liz) Walz and Matthew (Terrie) Walz along with 37 grandchildren, one great grandchild with two more due in March of 2021.&nbsp; He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna, Ohio.</p> <p>He will be most remembered for his love for his wife, Julia, his dedication and hard work for the pro-life cause since 1973, his unwavering faith and love for God, His Church and the Eucharist and his love for his family.&nbsp; Fred served as Professor of Biochemistry at Kent State University from 1975-2011. He was active with Right to Life of Northeast Ohio, served in prison ministry, served in the nursing home visitation ministry and prayed weekly at a local abortion facility. He loved his Church and never wavered in his faith. Fred was notorious for his walks. He has reached the destination of his final walk. He will be terribly missed by his wife and family.&nbsp; Please keep the repose of his soul in the charity of your prayers.&nbsp; Calling hours will be Thursday November 19, 2020 from 10:00 Am until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church Ravenna, Ohio with Father William Kraynak Officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery Ravenna, Ohio.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Right to Life of Northeast Ohio.&nbsp; Condolences and memories of Mr. Walz may be shared with his family at www.sscfuneralhomes.com.</p>
