Ursula Mary Brophy Obituary

Ursula Brophy 1940 - 2020 It is with great sadness and loss that we announce the sudden passing of Ursula (Furey) Brophy of Bishop’s Falls at the Central Newfoundland Hospital on November 13, 2020 at the age of 80. Ursula was predeceased by her husband Bill, her father David Furey Sr., her mother Theresa, sisters Kay and Marjorie, and brothers David and Tom. Urs worked in her family’s business in Bishop’s Falls for many years and then continued working with her younger brother Tom until her retirement. She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Parish serving in a variety of ministries, including as Eucharistic minister to the residents of the Carmelite House, which she enjoyed immensely. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League as well as a Presentation Associate, of which she took great pride. Ursula was an active member of the 50 Plus Club and spoke fondly of the people in it and their activities. Urs loved travelling around Newfoundland, Canada, the United States, Italy and Ireland as well as spending time at their cabin. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and loved going on any type of road trip. She will be sadly missed by all, especially her family - daughter Pauline and son Michael (Adelia), as well as her sister Gertie (Ron), her in-laws on the Brophy side, as well as nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins, and many, many friends. She will be cremated. The visitation, funeral service, and internment will be held when Covid restrictions permit family and friends to travel safely. Donations may be made in her memory to the Lung Association, Cancer Society, Epilepsy Association, or the Heart and Stroke Association as these organizations were all very important to her. The family would also like to thank the staff at the Kingsway Retirement Home in Grand Falls - Windsor and at the Miller Centre in St. John’s for the excellent care she received when she was with them. Thank you to family and friends for all of the love and support you offered Ursula and thank you for the support her family has received during this difficult time.
