Rudolph Ronald Grocholski Obituary

Rudolph Ronald Grocholski

1947 – 2020

On November 8, 2020, at approximately 18:00 hours, Rudolph Ronald Grocholski, aged 73 years passed away at the Swan Valley Health Centre with his family by his side.

He is survived by four children; Tammy Grocholski of Thompson, Manitoba, Ronald Grocholski of Birch River, Manitoba, Dwayne Grocholski of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Jerome Grocholski of Castlegar, British Columbia; siblings Liz of Winnipeg, and Jannie of Roblin, Manitoba. He is predeceased by his wife Jeannette of Birch River; and brother Joe of Victoria, British Columbia.

Born to Joseph and Annie Grocholski in 1947, he spent the majority of his younger years in Gerald, Saskatchewan with siblings; Joe, Liz, and Jannie. Rudy, or Skinny as he was affectionately called, married his soul mate Jeannette Vivian Grocholski on May 8, 1970. They had four children; Tammy, Ronald, Dwayne, and Jerome respectively. Rudolph spent the majority of his life as a miner for Vale/Inco in Thompson. He worked for over thirty years and loved the mining life. Once retired he and Jeannette moved to Birch River to live out the rest of their lives.

Rudy was a generous man. He gave so much of himself and was the kind of man you could rely on when you needed help. He preferred to let others speak and wasn’t much for words, but he had a repertoire of gestures that easily conveyed his mood. Rudy loved to joke around and absolutely adored taking care of children. Jeannette and Rudy’s caring nature and playfulness led to a very close relationship with grandchildren Jennifer and Sean, who viewed them to be more like parents than grandparents. He always made time for his family and could often be found fishing, camping, bicycling, snowmobiling, etc. with the whole family in tow.

A very intelligent and skilled man, he was a jack of all trades and master of most. He poured his knowledge and skill into his children, teaching them to be self-sufficient and able to help others as he had done. Rudolph appeared stern, with a moustache that often hid his smile and compassion for others, which could not be measured. Strong, reliable, caring, and selfless; his loss is greatly felt by surviving family members.

A truly great man with a heart of gold, he will be dearly missed.

An evening viewing was held from the Chapel of Swan Valley Funeral Services, Swan River, Manitoba on Monday, November 16, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. A graveside service and interment was held on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 in Crandell Cemetery, Birch River, Manitoba at 11:00 a.m. with Father Norberto Monton officiating.
