Gilbert J. Torres, 89, a lifelong resident of Belen, died Wednesday, November 11, peacefully at home with family. He is survived by his companion Josie, two sons, Anthony (Adela) and Tim (Peggy), both of Belen, NM, grandchildren Anthony (Patricia) Torres, DeAnn (Joseph) Guzman, Timothy Torres II, and Teresa Torres of Albuquerque, NM and Eileen and Erica Torres of El Paso, TX, and two great-grandchildren, Penelope and Charlotte, of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by his brother, Toby Torres of La Mirada, CA, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death and is now welcomed home by his loving wife of 44 years, Eileen, their children David and newborns Susie and Martin, his parents Ramon and Teofila, and his siblings Mary, Tom, Jude, and JoAnn. Gilbert was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Belen Spanish Choir, and the Padre Pio Group. He also ran a security company for over 45 years and retired from Belen Consolidated Schools in 1991. A viewing will be held on Monday. November 16, 2020 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, followed by cremation and burial at the Our Lady of Belen cemetery at a later date. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we ask that all attendees exercise social-distancing. Groups of 5 will be permitted at a time for the viewing. If a reception occurs, it will be announced following his services. Gilbert was kind and loving, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
