Richard Lee "Dick" Tapp, 81, a lifelong Martinsville resident, passed peacefully on Monday, January 21, 2019 at his home. He was born in Bloomington, Indiana on August 20, 1937 to the late Edwin Avon Tapp and Emma Lorene (Cazee) Tapp. Dick worked as a foreman for International Harvester for thirty-five years before his retirement in 1994. He owned and operated Tapp Signs in Martinsville for over 40 years. One of his last installations was the sign at the Come N Get It restaurant. On September 21, 1956, Dick married the love of his life, Patricia "Pat" Kirkley; they have enjoyed over sixty-two years of marriage. A dedicated business owner and hard worker, Dick spent much of his time working on his signs. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, boating, and puzzles. Always finding the time for his family, he was a very supportive grandfather. Additionally, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and enjoyed many winters in Florida. Survivors include his wife, Pat Tapp of Martinsville; son, Terry (wife, Brenda) Tapp of Martinsville; daughters, Jackie (husband, Chris) Vandeventer and Sue (husband, Danny) Clouse both of Martinsville; brother, Donnie Tapp of Indianapolis; sisters, Judy Sidebottom of Cloverdale and Diana Craig of Spring, Texas; grandchildren, William (wife, Sarah) Rogers, Wendy Tapp, Bradley Tapp, Brandon Tapp, Miranda Tapp, and Casey (husband, Jeremy) Belcher; and great grandchildren, Mya Rogers, Makayla Belcher, Makenzie Belcher, Kash Hensley, Collin Tapp and one on the way. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Edwin; brothers, David, Russell, Lloyd, and Ronnie Tapp; and sister, Janet Chandler. Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, January 28, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the chapel at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. The funeral service celebrating his life will be on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with an hour of visiting prior to the service. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville. Online condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.nealandsummers.com.
