John Wesley Greenlaw III Obituary

John Wesley Greenlaw III, 63, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at the University of Washington Medical Center after complications with heart and kidney failure. John was born in Olympia, Washington on September 8, 1957 to John, Jr. (Jack) and Elizabeth (Betty) Greenlaw. A fourth generation Washington resident, John's early years were spent in Elma, Washing¬ton where his father was a large animal veterinarian. While in elementary school, John moved to the Tacoma area where he attended local public schools and graduated from Foss High School in 1975. After a year at Tacoma Community College, John transferred to the University of Washington. He worked his way through college, serving as President of Psi Upsilon Fraternity and working as a package handler for United Parcel Service. In 1979, he earned his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a Master’s degree five years later. After graduating from college, John began working as a Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) design engineer for two different Seattle area firms. In 1989, John started his own firm with Julie Wiebusch called the Greenbusch Group. The Greenbusch Group would provide mechanical, and acoustical consulting services to various construction projects throughout the State of Washington. For over 30 years, John served as the Principal Engineer for the mechanical department at Greenbusch. Through his work, John was involved in the construction of schools, apartments, houses and retail centers that would become familiar throughout Seattle. John truly loved his work, and made many great friends over his four decades in engineering. John also made time for his family and hobbies. He enjoyed camp¬ing, fishing, working on cars, riding motorcycles, and coaching baseball. In 1996, John moved to Edmonds, Washington with his family where he attended St. Alban's Episcopal Church and made many friends with his neighbors, parents he met through youth sports teams, and fellow members of his church. Last year, John had a birthday celebration at the Edmonds Library that was attended by over one hundred friends and family. John is survived by his wife of 30 years, Christine Greenlaw; their two sons Patrick and Marshall; his younger brother Mark; sister-in-law Linda; and his nieces Allison and Lindsay. John will be missed by his friends, family, and the many people whose lives he touched. The memorial service will be held in Edmonds, Washington on Thursday, November 12.
