Roger Dale Stokes

Roger Dale Stokes, 60, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away November 7, 2020, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He was born October 13, 1960, in Kennett, Missouri. As a young boy he loved to fish and hunt with his Dad. Playing high school football for the Piggott Mohawks was a great time in his life. His love for football continued throughout his life. He especially liked watching college football. His favorites were the Arkansas Razorbacks and Alabama Crimson Tide. He told his daughter, Taylor in one of their last conversations that you could always count on Alabama to entertain and to win. Roger graduated from Arkansas State University in May 1984 with a Bachelors of Science in AG Business Economics. He worked in the agricultural field in the public sector as well as the private sector as an entrepreneur. Roger was always a fun loving person who enjoyed life and valued spending time with family and friends. He was saved and baptized as a young man. Roger is survived by his daughter, Taylor Nicole Stokes (Jess) of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and his son , William Zachary Tyler Stokes of Piggott, Arkansas; also two special children who called him Papa, Corbin and Brooklyn of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; mother, Marilyn (Broadway) Stokes of Piggott, Arkansas; sisters, Sherry Stokes of Rector, Arkansas, Cheryl Gass (Jim) of Bryant, Arkansas; nephews, Daniel Steen (Amy) of Piggott, Arkansas, and Lucas Gass (Samantha) of Bryant, Arkansas; niece, Sydney Hamilton (Patrick) of Mountain Home, Idaho. Roger was proud of the recent birth of his first great nephew, Oliver Hamilton as well. He is survived by many cousins, other relatives and friends as well as the mother of his children, Deborah (Hommel) Worthington of Statesboro, Georgia. Roger was preceded in death by his father, William Henry Stokes; maternal grandparents, James and Laura (Howell) Broadway; paternal grandparents, Jeff and Rachel (Merrell) Stokes. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Piggott Cemetery in Piggott, Arkansas with Bro. Mark Book officiating. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of arrangements. Honored to serve as pallbearers, Matt Sutfin, Greg Engle, Neil Morgan, Gaylon Cole, James Eason, Mark Howell, and Chris Wegel. Family request: Mask and Social Distancing - NO EXCEPTIONS.
