DILLARD, JERRY R. of Farmington Hills, passed away October 31, 2020 at 66 years of age. Born in Pontiac, Michigan son of the late James Raymond Dillard and Dorothy Elise Dillard (nee Carter); loving husband of Ruth for 45 years; dear father of Jayson Dillard, Jacob Dillard, Jessica (Derek) Colberg, James Dillard; grandfather of Davian Dillard, Azaileah Lesperance, Cameron Colberg, Claire Colberg and another Colberg baby on the way and; brother of Michael Dillard, Joy Herr, and the late Eddie Dillard. Jerry was a 1971 graduate of Waterford Mott High School and held the school’s rebound record in basketball for many years. He then earned his associate’s degree from Oakland Community College and shortly after, married his lovely wife Ruth Hoetger in 1975. Jerry was a born salesman who could “sell ice to an eskimo” and became self employed at the young age of 20. He earned high awards selling Filter Queens for 15 years and 25 years in flooring for several owned locations throughout the area. He coached basketball and baseball for his sons for almost 30 years, and rarely missed a Tigers or Lions game on TV. A tall, humorous man with a big presence whom you felt you knew immediately; a loving and affectionate husband, father, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was still cracking jokes even during his worst of times. His big personality will be deeply missed by all who loved him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels in Farmington Hills or directly to the family to help with funeral expenses.
