<p><strong>Mass of Christian Burial for Philip J. Sporer, 99, of Ipswich, is 11:00 AM Thursday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ipswich. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.</strong></p> <p><strong>Visitation is from 9-11:00 Am at the church on Thursday.</strong></p> <p><em><strong>Please wear masks.</strong></em></p> <p><strong>Philip was born December 18, 1920 on a farm in Union Township, Edmunds County, South Dakota. He was raised there and attended rural school. For a short time the family lived near Loyalton, SD before returning to Union Township. In his mid-teens, he worked at the CCC Camps in the Black Hills of South Dakota.</strong></p> <p><strong>Philip married Ambrosia “Amy” Mastel on August 16, 1945. They made their home on the Sporer farm12 miles southeast of Ipswich. Philip loved the farm life and worked hard raising cattle and grains. In fact he reluctantly sold his herd when he was 93 years old. Even though he no longer actively farmed his ground, he was still a farmer and would keep an eye on the activities of those who rented his land.</strong></p> <p><strong>Amy died on May 18, 2012 and Philip remained on the family farm.</strong></p> <p><strong>He was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and loved the many years he could serve as an usher. He was also a faithful member of the Knights of Columbus.</strong></p> <p><strong>Philip died Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.</strong></p> <p><strong>He is survived by five children, Bonnie (Ron) Boyer of Ft. Worth, TX, Betty (Bernard) Benton of Joppa, MD, Jim Sporer of Ipswich, Debbie (Duane) Clemens of Aberdeen, and Bill (Bonita) Sporer of Lansing, MI; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Boyer, Brandon Majerus, Natalie Majerus Gainey, Neil Clemens and Lee Clemens and 10 great-grandchildren.</strong></p> <p><strong>His parents, wife, one brother and one sister preceded him in death</strong></p> <p><strong>Funeral arrangements are with Gramm Funeral Home of Ipswich.</strong></p> <p><strong>Condolences and memories may be shared with his family and flowers ordered at grammfuneralhome.com</strong></p>Obituary
