Nawal Liddawi South Plainfield, New Jersey Obituary

Nawal Liddawi

South Plainfield, New Jersey - born in the old city of Jerusalem, Palestine on February 16, 1942, Nawal grew up with a large loving family with a total of 5 sisters and 1 brother. She loved attending church at St. Jacob next to the Holy Sepulchre and singing in their choir. She made a new life for herself in America in 1966. Here, she started her career in accounting and with her sharp mind and determination earned great recognition and several promotions to supervisor positions while serving Continental Insurance for 28 years. During her career she met her husband, Saliba H. Liddawi in 1970. After only 2 years of dating, she knew he was her partner for life and got married in April of 1972 in Brooklyn, NY. Together they relocated with the company several times ultimately finding their way to New Jersey. Three years later, she gave birth to her one and only child, Edward E. Liddawi in Toms River, NJ. She was later blessed with 2 grandsons, Alexander and Landen, who became her heart and joy in life. Nawal found her new favorite church, St. Steven’s Antiochian Orthodox Church in South Plainfield in 1983. There she sang in the choir once again and served in the women’s group and participated in various social church activities. After a long battle with kidney disease and dialysis treatments for 5 and a half years, Nawal suffered several strokes and even came back after 15 minutes of cardiac arrest before finally passing away at JFK Medical Center on Thursday November 5th shortly after 11am. She was a strong woman and tough fighter till the end. She is survived by her sisters Laila, Nuha and several nieces and nephews as well as her husband Saliba, his nieces and nephews, her sister-in-laws Salwa and Widad, also by her son Edward and grandsons Alex and Landen. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2020 from 12pm – 4pm in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 9, 2020 at 10:30am in the funeral home. Nawal will be laid to rest at Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth immediately following the funeral services. We kindly ask for all of those who will be visiting with the family, that facial coverings be worn and you are mindful of your time spent indoors so others can have their opportunity to pay their respects. May she Rest In Peace. God bless her soul.
