Anna Lee Campbell

On November 5, 2020 Anna Lee Campbell of Baxter Springs Kansas, passed away at her home, three days short of her 92nd birthday. Anna Lee was born on November 8, 1928 in Bolivar Missouri, the daughter of J. Paul Cunningham and Vera Cunningham. She grew up on the family dairy farm near Bolivar. She was a graduate of Bolivar High School. On November 27, 1949 she married Ben L. Campbell also of Bolivar who preceded her in death in 1993. They moved to Baxter Springs in 1950, when Ben was transferred with Empire District Electric. Anna Lee was a homemaker until 1969 when she went to work in the office of Dr. Norman Hildreth DDS as a receptionist and dental assistant. She worked for Dr. Hildreth until 1986 when she and Ben both retired. Anna Lee’s unwavering faith guided her as she served The First United Methodist Church of Baxter Springs for 70 years. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women not only locally but on a District Level as well. She was a Sunday School Teacher for many years, served on many committees and boards at the church. Anna Lee was known for her collection of angels and gave programs to many organizations in the four state area on the subject of angels. She was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter BT. Anna Lee’s passion for serving her community drove her to volunteer in many ways, such as Meals on Wheels, Ministerial Alliance Thrift Store, The Baxter Springs Heritage Museum to mention just a few. Anna Lee was usually the first to volunteer to take a friend, member of the church or a community resident to doctor’s appointments, the store or other errands they could not do for themselves. In 2008 Anna Lee was honored as a Home Town Hero by Baxter Springs High School for her Community Service. She was known for her skills as an expert seamstress, making wedding dresses for her daughters, attendant dresses for her daughter and granddaughter as well as prom dresses for others. She enjoyed crocheting, making cards and many other arts and craft projects. Anna Lee is survived by her two daughters Debra Haddock (Barry deceased) of Tucson Arizona and Linda Crotts (Glenn) of Baxter Springs Kansas. She was the proud grandmother of Kelli Pant (Jeremy), Kyle Crotts (Micah) and Kris Crotts (Haylee) and eight great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 9, 2020 at The First United Methodist Church, Baxter Springs, KS. Pastor Dorcia Johnson will officiate. Burial of ashes will follow at the Baxter Springs Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Anna’s memory to the First United Methodist Church.
