Flowers gratefully accepted or donations can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association. Our mother had many roles in her long life, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, nurse, mentor, leader, educator, volunteer. To her children, she was Mom. With our father, she raised 12 children, while working outside the home, as well, as a nurse in a time when this was very unusual. Our mother was a feminist before the term was even coined. During that time she was actively involved with both her professional association and was a founding member of the Registered Nurses’ Union, signing the first collective agreement for nurses. After retirement, Mom and Dad divided their time between their cabin and their winter home in Florida, remaining quite active but always home for Christmas, which was Mom’s favorite time of year. Mom continued to be very involved after retirement assuming the role of Florida Homeowners Association President and negotiating to attain ownership of the Pinewood Mobile Village. She continued to travel back and forth after Dad’s death and remained very involved, offering advice and guidance to neighbours and the executive. Both our parents were accomplished musicians. Mom’s passion was her piano, filling our house with music and song. She instilled that love in all of her children, all of whom sing and /or play a musical instrument. Our mother lived the past 25 years without her husband, the love of her life, missing him and thinking of him every single day. With all the hope and faith her children can muster, she is now finally reunited with him and can, at long last, dance with him for the rest of eternity. She leaves us to remember her great sense of humour, her distinctive laugh, her impeccable fashion sense (all the colours!!!), her intelligence and intellect, her compassion and empathy, her commitment and devotion, her perseverance and determination. Until we meet again, Mom. See you later! “There was music in my mother’s house, There was music all around There was music in my mother’s house And my heart’s still full with the sound”
