Maureen Louise Carr Poulsbo, Washington Obituary

Maureen Louise Carr

Maureen Carr was born Maureen Louise Jameson in Seattle Washington on New Year’s Day 1944. She grew up in Seattle, attending Blanchet High School and the University of Washington. In the mid 1960’s she worked as a flight attendant for PanAm Airlines, through which she was able to see the world-traveling to every continent-an experience she treasured throughout her life. Independent and undaunted after a divorce in the early 1970’s Maureen navigated graduate school as a single mother and went on to work for a variety of utility and energy organizations where she focused on expanding conservation and protecting the promise of public power. From the late 1970’s to the early 2000’s, she worked for Seattle City Light, the US Department of Energy, the Bonneville Power Administration, the Public Power Council, among others. In 1983 she met her longtime companion and husband, John Shearer. Maureen and John lived in Portland for many years before moving to Hansville Washington in 2004 and becoming active members of the Poulsbo Yacht Club, where their cruising enabled them to enjoy the stunning beauty of Puget Sound and the Inside Passage and the gorgeous harbors of British Columbia. Their boating adventures always included their first poodle, Rocky. In addition to her professional interest, Maureen was an excellent fiber artist-that began in the 1990’s with spinning and loom weaving and led to her focusing on fabric painting, developing natural dyes, and experimenting with the integration of natural elements into fabric art. In retirement she found more time to attend artist workshops with newfound friends and honed her craft. Maureen died on October 26th, 2020 after a debilitating cardiac arrest. She is missed tremendously by the family and friends she left behind. Maureen is survived by her husband John Shearer of Hansville Washington, daughters Dulane (Carr) Moran of Portland Oregon and Alexis (Carr) Ashworth of Salt Lake City Utah, cherished grandchildren Ethan and Quinn Moran and Jameson and Maisie Ashworth, her brother Michael Jameson of Lacey Washington.
