"Red" James Fletcher Obituary

Mr. Red Fletcher, age 72, of the Belfast section of Russell County, Virginia, passed away Monday (November 2, 2020) in an Abingdon, Virginia hospital. Born April 30, 1948 in Buchanan County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Fleming M. and Virgie Sanders Fletcher. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a member of Blackford Community Church. Always willing to lend a hand and serve his community, he showed that quality by formerly serving on the Honaker Fire Department, Honaker Police Department and New Garden Rescue Squad. He had formerly been employed as a coal miner, had worked as a funeral assistant at Honaker Funeral Home, but found his love for law enforcement, retiring after thirty-eight years of service with the Russell County Sheriff’s Department. He enjoyed fishing, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Curvin Fletcher and one sister, Helen Gladys Fletcher. Survivors include his wife of nearly fifty-one years, Carrie Robinette Fletcher of the home; two children, James Allen Fletcher and wife, Kim of Belfast and Anna Ruth Fletcher Bostic and husband, Elmer of Rosedale; five grandchildren, Judy Smith, Kaylee Bostic, Emily Bostic, Korbin Fletcher, and Kylynn Fletcher; one brother, Douglas Fletcher and wife, Wanda of Honaker; two sisters, Carolyn Tiller of Rosedale and Mae Fletcher of Beckley, West Virginia; his very special friend, Kirby Meadows; several nieces, nephews, and many friends also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson and Rev. Wayne Baldwin officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Michael Tiller, Chris Vance, Jim Eaton, Jerry Stinson, Greg Casey, and David Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Stinson, Larry Stinson, Glen Street, Mickey Hale, Austin Benfield, and John Benfield. The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Thursday, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
