Betty Jean Beck Obituary

Mrs. Betty Jean Beck (née Lomax), 85, of Thomasville passed away on November 1st, 2020 at Piedmont Crossing.

 

Betty Jean was born in Thomasville, NC on December 11th, 1934 to the late William Alexander Lomax and Cora Elizabeth Lomax (née Morris). She grew up in Thomasville and attended Trinity Memorial Methodist Church on Liberty Drive. After graduating from Thomasville High School, she worked in Diamond Full Fashion Hosiery. She later attended both Ashmore Business College and High Point College, and was a longtime employee of Thomasville’s Central Electric Company. A beloved Sunday School teacher, member of the United Methodist Women, and organizer of both Chrismons festivities and Holy Land trips, she was known for her extensive work in the local church, particularly in those pastored by her husband, Rev. Bobby Ray Beck.

 

Betty Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Jamie Lomax and Juanita Wright, and her step-sisters Peggy Johnson and Nancy Haltom. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Rev. Bobby Ray Beck of the home; two sons, Ferris Michael Beck and wife Josie of New Mexico, and Stanley Ray Beck and wife Lorie of Thomasville; four grandchildren: Christopher Michael Beck and wife Kristen, Jessica Leigh Mosley and husband Marlin, Cody Ray Beck and wife Kristina, and John Casey Beck; as well as five great-grandchildren: Cameron and Vivienne Beck, and Kendall, Myles, and Kellen Mosley.

 

A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the J.C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Sidney Lanier and Rev. Jenna Grogan officiating. Interment will follow at Johnsontown United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will greet friends Thursday night from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville. Mask and social distancing are required for all events. Memorials may be given to Johnsontown United Methodist Church in Thomasville.
