Terry Ross Shawgo
Terry Ross Shawgo, 70, of Onida, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at Prairie Heights Healthcare in Aberdeen. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Faulkton with Father Christopher Hughes officiating. Burial took place in St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery, Faulkton. Visitation was held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Luce Funeral Home in Faulkton with a time for sharing at 7:00 p.m. Terry Ross Shawgo was born May 12, 1949 to Don and Dorothy (Gross) Shawgo, spending his childhood in Gettysburg and Faulkton, SD. He graduated from Faulkton High School in 1967 and graduated from Northern State University in 1971 with a degree in business and minor in economics. He spent time in both Minnesota and South Dakota, finally settling in Onida. Terry spent time working in banking and eventually bookkeeping for Ford dealerships. The majority of his career was spent at Chase Ford which later became Lamb Motor Co. in Onida. Terry was a passionate fan of Sully Buttes High School sports, especially basketball. He was recognized for his support of the State Champion Sully Buttes Girls Basketball team in 2007. Even as his activity declined, he continued to follow all of the school's athletic success. He enjoyed weekly poker tournaments in Onida, was an avid golfer, spending numerous hours on the course with family and friends, taking in local 9-hole tournaments in surrounding communities. Terry was known for his positivity in facing adversity and everyone admired him for his true grit. He touched many lives with his attitude on life. Survivors include his sister, Donna (Dennis) Darrington, Waubay; three nieces, two great nieces and seven great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
