Newark ~ Hazel Fay (Steel) Payne, 74, went to be with our Lord Sunday, November 1, 2020 in Southlake.

Funeral is 1:00 PM Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd with burial in Old Hall Cemetery in Lewisville. Family will receive friends 6-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Chaplin Dan Ashley will officiate. 

Hazel was born on October 15, 1946 to Sherman and Jewel Bernice (Johnson) Steel in Dallas. She was united in marriage to Jimmy Payne in Durant, Oklahoma in 1968. She was a beloved mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Jewel Steel Brown; step father, Jessie Brown; daughter, Lisa Payne; 2 grandchildren, Kelsey and Kayla Payne; brother, Charles Steel; 4 sisters, Violet Sherbert, Winnie McGuire, Rathine Moore, and Charolette Steel.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Eddie Payne of Greenville; daughter, Tambra Nash and husband Dennis of Newark; 6 grandchildren, Michael Calvert, James Benthall, Tara Benthall, Amanda Villegas, Jade Payne, and Brook Elliott; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Steel and wife Pat of Paradise; sister, Connie Fretwell and husband Wendell of Canton; other relatives and a host of friends.
