George William "Bill" Zeiss, Jr.

<p>George William &ldquo;Bill&rdquo; Zeiss, Jr. passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020 after complications from a surgery.&nbsp; He was 76 years old.&nbsp; A celebration of life service for Bill will be held at a date to be determined.&nbsp;</p> <p>Bill was born on October 5, 1944 in Fort Lauderdale, FL to George and Emily (Sweetman) Zeiss.&nbsp; He graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1962 and enrolled at the University of Miami on a football scholarship.&nbsp; However, due to a broken arm suffered in spring practice he was released during his first season, ending his football career.&nbsp; He later enrolled at Florida Atlantic University and graduated with a Bachelor&#39;s Degree in Physical Education in 1966, representing the third graduating class of the school.&nbsp; He also received a Master&#39;s Degree in Education from Florida Atlantic University in 1972.</p> <p>As a high school educator in various county school districts across Florida, Bill served for almost 40 years as a science teacher and high school football coach.&nbsp; Coaching football was his love and he went to the Florida high school playoffs three times as the defensive coordinator at Seminole High School in Sanford, FL.&nbsp; Bill also coached baseball and basketball.</p> <p>Bill retired in 2007 and spent his retirement years in Georgia and South Carolina volunteering for different charitable organizations and making new friends.&nbsp; He is survived by his partner of 11 years, Ms. Andree Godbout, his two sons, William Michael Zeiss (Beth) of Calhoun, GA and Jonathan Allen Zeiss (Marisa) of Los Angeles, CA, and four grandchildren.</p> <p>A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Church of the Cross, 110 Calhoun St., Bluffton. Due to social distancing, attendees are asked to RSVP to the memorial service by contacting andy7god@gmail.com or calling 404-210-4469 by Thursday, November 12.</p> <p>An additional service will be held at 5:00 pm, Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Hope Church, 1970 Charles Hardy Parkway, Dallas, GA 30157. A visitation with family will take place&nbsp;from 3:00 pm until the time of the service.&nbsp;</p> <p>Social distancing will be in place and masks are required for both services.&nbsp;</p> <p>In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill&rsquo;s memory to the Bluffton-Jasper&nbsp;Volunteers in Medicine at <a href="http://www.bjvim.org/">www.BJVIM.org</a>.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

George William “Bill” Zeiss, Jr. passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020 after complications from a surgery.  He was 76 years old.  A celebration of life service for Bill will be held at a date to be determined.
