Robert Malcolm Parlee Dracut, Massachusetts Obituary

Robert Malcolm Parlee

On Saturday, October 24, 2020, the Honorable Robert M. Parlee, of Dracut, MA, passed from this life. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Susan, his daughter Alissa and her husband, Andy Rodenhiser, his son John and his wife, Jaime Parlee, and his son Jeffrey and his wife Marissa Parlee. Bob dearly loved his grandchildren Lucas and Evelyn Parlee and Eliza, Rhiannon and Jason Rodenhiser. Bob was the son of the late Estey and Hilda Parlee of Weston, MA. Bob had a very special place in his heart for his granddogs, and they each looked forward to coming to Grampy's house and visiting him in his kitchen to see what he was cooking. Bob loved to cook and made every meal special; you knew Bob loved you when he cooked for you. At the end of the day, he would enter his kitchen, put on music and pull out his recipes. The dining room table would be set just about every night with nice dishes, and the food garnished and displayed with pride, whether it was for his whole family, or just him and his wife. Bob made everyday meals a special event and something to look forward to. He always had room at the table and opened his doors to his children's extended families. Bob enjoyed gardening and would share his vegetable bounty with his children and close friends, and perhaps what they most looked forward to was when he shared his vegetables already prepared in a delicious meal! Bob had a big heart and was always so thoughtful, especially during the holidays, making every occasion special for his family. He took care of feeding the birds in his yard, every day and in every season. He and Susan enjoyed sitting on their deck, watching the birds and enjoying their yard and gardens that they worked together to cultivate over the 40 years they spent together. He loved and cared for many animals over the years and most recently had the companionship of his kitties, Buddy and Mittsy. Bob had a great love for music. He played the trumpet growing up and continued playing in bands into his adult years, making many friendships, of course, the most important was meeting Susan in a Polish Polka band when she was 16 years old. He played the trumpet on Easter and Christmas services at the Centralville United Methodist Church. He was very patriotic and loved his country. He proudly flew the American flag and was proud of his sons' military careers and service to our country. He was always sharing his love of music with his family, whether it was classical music playing in the background during dinner, patriotic marches playing loud enough for the neighborhood to hear on the 4th of July, or polkas playing in the kitchen while he cooked; there was always music playing at the Parlee home. Bob embraced Susan's Polish heritage and would gather the family for the Wigilia Celebration on Christmas Eve, making all the traditional Polish foods. Bob loved to be out in nature and enjoyed the White Mountains and the New England coast. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid reader: he especially enjoyed American History. His children would often call, text or email with life questions, big and small, and Bob would always have or find an answer. Bob lived his life led by a strong moral compass and was devoted to the well-being of his wife, children, and grandchildren. Bob was a retired Postmaster with the United States Postal Service. A private service will be held in the future to honor Bob's memory. Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
