Larry A. Folkerts Obituary

Larry A. Folkerts, age 73 of rural Forest City, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at the Hancock County Health System in Britt, Iowa. Upon his wishes, he was cremated and no formal services are being held at this time. Memorials may be sent directly to Trudy & family or can be sent to Schott Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City, IA 50436, attn: Larry Folkerts family. Larry A. Folkerts was born on April 3, 1947 in Britt, Iowa to parents Arthur and Lois (Heggen) Folkerts. He was baptized and confirmed at the First United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake, Iowa. Larry attended and graduated from Forest City High School in 1965. May 24, 1966 Larry began his service with the United States Air Force. On September 24, 1966, while stationed in Champaign, Illinois, Larry was united in marriage to Trudy Brock. Soon after, the couple moved to Minot, North Dakota, where they remained stationed for the next 3 & ½ years. While living in North Dakota, Larry and Trudy were blessed with a son, Larry John. After Larry’s honorable discharge on March 23, 1970, the family moved back to North Iowa. Larry was a welder by trade and was employed at Iowa Mold & Tool (IMT) for over 40 years when he retired. In his free time, he enjoyed draft horses-especially the stubborn ones. Larry and Trudy liked to attend auctions, not just across Iowa, but in the Midwest as well. His two grandchildren meant the world to him, at least until little great-granddaughter Vanessa came along! She was definitely #1 in Larry’s eyes. He will be missed greatly by his wife of 54 years, Trudy of Forest City; son Larry John (Wanda) Folkerts of Crystal Lake, IA; two grandchildren Travis (Brandy) Folkerts of Lake Mills, IA and Tracie (Kyle Giesen) Folkerts of Joice, IA; his great-granddaughter Vanessa; a brother Randy (Sue) Folkerts of Forest City and a brother-in-law Dennis Swanson of Clear Lake, IA. Larry is also survived by brothers- and sisters-in-law from the Brock family: Rick Brock of Leland, IA, Jodene (Gary) Bartelson of Forest City, John's wife Dawn Brock of Forest City, Rhonda King of Forest City, and Terrel (Tammy) Brock of Forest City; as well as a bunch of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Lois; father- and mother-in-law Cohen and Norma Brock; sister Judy Swanson; sister-in-law Karen Brock; brother-in-law John Brock; and a special nephew Branden Brock.
