Adelien Fictorina Gerungan

Our mom lived a loving life full of travel, adventures and family all over the world. She passed at the age of 80 in the presence of her four children on Wednesday, 21 October 2020 at 10:25am in Portland, Oregon USA. Her final years of life were a struggle fighting through the onset of dementia and the crippling effects of diabetes. Despite a host of issues, our mom shined beautifully through it all, persevering through multiple strokes, TIAs, seizures and physical calamities and still blessing us with her infectious smiles and warm embraces. Mommy has been and will always be the one person who loved us unconditionally and taught us through her actions that love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and endures all things. Adelien Fictorina Manuel-Gerungan was born on 21 February 1940 in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. She was the 7th of eight children. She married Rudolf Benjamin Gerungan on 24 June 1964 and had four children in the following order, Maylannee Ruth Laird (married to Christopher Laird), Ingrid Koehler (married to Ken Koehler), Raymond Anthony Gerungan (married to Dedeq Irrantha Gerungan) and Amanda Beverly Smith (married to Mark Smith). She leaves behind 8 beautiful and doting grandchildren: Thomas Scott, Rachel (Scott) Blackwood, Lauren Scott, Alanna Koehler, Nathan Koehler, Zoey Koehler, Chloe Gerungan and Fox Gerungan, and 2 great grandchildren: Pepper Maylannee Blackwood and Rhea Jay Blackwood. Our mom was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a devout Christian. She truly believed in the blessings of God and lived by the fruits of her spiritual labors. She was quick to thank God and slow to consider the vices of others. She was always giving of her time, treasures and prayers almost to a fault. She left this world with modest secular belongings as she built a substantial treasure trove in Heaven and is now among the richest to grace the Pearly Gates. We will truly miss our mom, and our hearts ache as she takes her leave from our mortal beings. We are comforted in the fact that she ran a good race and has fought the good fight, and through it all, she most certainly kept the Faith. She is an inspiration to all of us to follow her lead to live a life of love and happiness and to always keep our family close. We love you, Mommy, always and forever.
