Elmer V. Irish of Saginaw, Michigan formerly of Freeland Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at Covenant Healthcare – Cooper. He was 74 years old. Elmer Vern Irish was born on March 8, 1946, in Saginaw, to the late Elmer B. and Barbara (Amy) Irish. He honorably served his country by enlisting in the United States Army and serving in Germany. Elmer worked as a repairman for General Motors - Steering Gear, retiring with over 30 years of loyal and dedicated service. Throughout his life, he proudly owned many Harley Davison motorcycles and took great pleasure in many adventures on his bike. Elmer was also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping, fishing, and ATVing. Above all, he loved spending time with his dog, Misty, and horseback riding with his horse, Norman. Elmer will forever be remembered for his intelligence, ability to be innovative in all situations, for always remaining quiet and thoughtful throughout his life, and for his quick wit humor. Surviving a son and daughter: Rick (Diana) Irish of Freeland; Jennifer (Adam) Irish Beaudo of FL; five grandchildren: Josh, Paige, Taylor (Michael), Emily, and Zach; one great-granddaughter, Lilly; two brothers and one sister: John (Anne) Irish, Nina (Richard) Lawrence, and Jim (Kathy) Irish. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters: Richard (Marion) Irish, Lily Irish, and Barbara Irish. A funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2020, at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road. Rev. Ted McCulloch will officiate. Military Honors will follow under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post #439. Honoring Elmer’s wishes cremation will follow the service. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Amazing Grace Pet Rescue or Starry Skies Equine Rescue and Sanctuary.
