The Story of Her Journey Sister Irma Bernice Brown Cooper Psalm 55:6 And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! For then I’d fly away and be at rest. Sister Irma Bernice Brown Cooper was born to the late Gus Bo Brown Sr. and Mabel Simon Brown on June 23, 1932 in Simmesport, LA. She was baptized at an early age at New Bethel Baptist Church By the late Reverend M. R. Stemley. She was a faithful member at Greater New Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Chris I. Augustine. She served many years as an active choir member faithfully until her health begin to fail. Sister Bernice attended New Bethel Baptist Church School. She was a homemaker for many years. On October 24, 2020 she transitioned into her heavenly home at the hour of 1:52 p.m. at her home along with her children and grandchildren. Sister Bernice was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her. Sister Bernice (Bern) was a very cheerful, compassionate and loving person with a “Heart of Gold” for her family. She was a person who never encountered a stranger. She had conversation for all she met. She was known to many as “Bern or Madea”. Sister Bernice had love for (all of her family). She enjoyed drinking coffee every morning and enjoyed sitting on her porch watching traffic go up and down the road, waving to all who knew her. Precious memories will forever be cherished by her Special friend Earl Armstrong of Simmesport, LA, (2) daughters, Diane Turner and Felitha Washington (John) of Simmesport, LA, (1) Son, Terral (Judy) Brown of Newark, CA, (1) Stepdaughter, Charlene Dupar of Moureauville, LA, (9) grandchildren, Tiffany, Damingo, Winfred (Lindsey) Ryeisha, Lakeda, Tedrick, Keira (Nathan) , and Zacharias and Jerermiah, (2) step-grandchildren, Tabitha (Gerald), and Stanley Drummer, (32) great-great grandchildren, (3) step great-great grandchildren, (1) daughter-in-law, Leisa Franklin Cooper of Baton Rouge, LA, (1) sister-in-law, Bernice Simon of Simmesport, LA, (2) brothers, Gus Brown Jr. of Houston, TX, Murphy (Diane) Means, (2) special friends, Earlean Jones of Simmesport, LA, and Louise Holmes of Melville, LA, (4) Godchildren, Florence Jackson of Houston, TX, Shirley Franklin of Simmesport, LA, Darrell Williams of Alexandria, LA and Classy Stovall, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A Homegoing Celebration will be held and she will be crowned on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Pleasant Green Baptist Church, 3185 Hwy.105 in Simmesport, LA 71369. Viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until the start of service at 11:00 a.m. Ms. Irma will be taken to Greater New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Simmesport, Louisiana immediately following the service.
