Arnold Edward Gratton Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Arnold E. Gratton of Huntington, on Saturday morning October 24, 2020. Arnold was born on October 13, 1932 to Adeline and Remi Gratton, of Westford, VT. Arnold married Janice McMahon, the love of his life, on December 1, 1956 in St. Stephen’s Church in Winooski, VT. Arnold and Janice were blessed with two sons and 2 daughters. Then Arnold started his military career, serving his country for 27 years with the Army and one year in the Marines, serving during the Korean Conflict and Germany and stateside tours. He retired from his military career in March of 1978 and then continued to work as a machinist for General Electric. As a Richmond resident, he and Jan opened “The Village Bargain Barn” in Richmond. Arnold loved helping and socializing with everyone and joined the Fire Department. In 1996 Arnold and Jan moved to Huntington and started volunteering with local seniors and sharing weekly luncheons. Arnold loved and was so proud of his children, Ronny, Randy, Terri and Lori – he offered his encouragement, patience and was so supportive of each one. He continued his support and love to 8 grandchildren as well as his 6 great grandsons with all the fun and laughter they brought him. Arnold was a long time member of St. Jude’s Church in Hinesburg. Arnold is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janice, four children and spouses, brother Remi, several nieces and nephews. Arnold was pre-deceased by 11 brothers and sisters. Janice spent 6 years loving and caring for Arnold with his health issues. Their family is very proud of their love and compassion for each other during this time. Thank you Mom – we love you. Janice and her family wish to thank UVM Home Health and Hospice teams. They were so incredible with Arnold’s final days. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Huntington Fire Department or Richmond Rescue. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Hinesburg from 4:00 – 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 11:00am at St. Jude’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at Fort Ethan Allen Cemetery in Colchester, VT at a later date.
