A celebration of life will be live-streamed for friends to watch on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Please go to the tribute wall, where you will find the details and instructions on how to watch the service live. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to her family to be distributed to organizations that were important to Delores. Delores was born February 27, 1934 in Iowa City to Earnie and Alice (Hospodarsky) Schropp. Growing up with seven siblings taught her the value of a close-knit family at an early age, which she passed on to her children. She was a lifelong resident of Johnson County, where she not only made a living and raised her four children but also where she developed many cherished friendships. Delores worked for the Iowa City Community School District for many years and also spent many years working in Real Estate. She did not retire until moving to Tiffin almost 20 years ago, where she lived up until her death. Delores lived her life for her family but if you knew her, you also knew how much love, care, and food she offered to her beloved pets. If you really knew her then you knew that there was always food involved in any plan of hers. She was a phenomenal cook and loved doing it for her family, friends, and neighbors. Just when you thought you were full is about the time she would get out her stash of sweets for dessert. She always had a sweet tooth, and nothing stopped her from enjoying a good kit-kat, which she eventually told herself was sugar-free. There was no such thing as a stranger to Delores as they were just considered people she had not met yet. If she didn’t know you, she had no fear in introducing herself and would strike up a conversation with anyone, whether it was the table next to her or random person on the street, which she did quite often. That was who she was as a person and what everyone loved about her. She was the best ironer which will forever be remembered and appreciated by her children and their wardrobe. She collected crystals and also had a collection of dolls which were both a meaningful part of her life. Delores attended Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin for many years. Though she had made many friends throughout her life, her sister and lifelong best friend, Deanna Macri was her other half. The two of them lived close to each other in Tiffin and spent a lot of time together. Delores loved her home in Tiffin and her neighbors. Being independent was important to her and though she will be missed, her children are thankful that they did not have to take that away from her as she lived at home on her own just before going into hospice care. She is survived by her children, Robin (Gary) Vollbrecht of Tiffin, Cherie Steckly of Tiffin, Tammy (Brian) McNeal of North Liberty and Scott (Michele) Sadler of North Liberty; her sister and best friend, Deanna Macri; her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren that she absolutely adored as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings, Walter Schropp, Roger Schropp, Leona Cochran, Alice Nash, Goldie Royston and Marie Olson.
