Joseph "Joe" Martin Hoer, Jr., 71 of Anacoco, joined the angels in Heaven on Thursday, October 22, 2020, passing away suddenly of natural causes. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri and was the son of the late Joseph M. Hoer, Sr. and Lillian Eleanor Hoer of Roanoke, Virginia. Joe graduated from Northside High School before retiring from the U. S. Army after over 20 years of honorable service in the Calvary including stations in Korea, Germany, Ft. Polk (5th Infantry Division, 4th Calvary) and various bases in the United States. After retiring from the Army, he continued with his passion for machinery working as a notary public, mechanic, tow truck driver, election poll worker, and later as an environmental inspector. He loved cars and was often working on a dozen or more cars at any one time. He loved his country and supported it at all times. He loved his family, being the one who would take care of his beloved wife Paula, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, a lesson he learned from his parents and 8 siblings. He was a leader to all who knew him, spoke words that were deep in meaning. His heart was made of gold – for everyone. He is predeceased and will join in Heaven his father, Joseph M. Hoer, Sr.; his mother, Lillian Eleanor Hoer; his sister, Jane Marie Hoer; his son, Alex Burleson; and his daughter, Samantha Hoer Dewey. Joe is survived by his wife of 41 years Paula Coats Hoer of Anacoco and his children Joseph Martin Hoer III, of Galax, Virginia; Russ Burleson, of Cedar Park, Texas; and Jozi Hoer, of Anacoco. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Michelle Hoer of Galax, Virginia; son-in-law, Chris Dewey of Houston, Texas; and daughter-in-law Susan Burleson, of Cedar Park Texas. He was so proud of his eleven grandchildren: Joseph Martin Hoer IV, Jennifer Burleson, Bobby Burleson, Angel Hilton, Emily Burleson, Haley Benson, Caleb Dewey, Asher Dewey, Lilly Hoer, Morgan Farmer, and Zach Lazrene. He loved his one great-grandchild Leon Bridges. Joe was the oldest of nine children: Jane Marie Hoer (deceased), John Michael Hoer, Joan Margaret Naff, James Matthew Hoer (Stephanie), Jerome Mark Hoer (Barbara), Jeffrey Marcus Hoer (Beth), Janet Marlene Terenzi (Terence), and Jean Maureen Tyree (Jerry). From these siblings came many nieces and nephews. Thank you Joe for all that you have done for your family, your country and everyone who knew you. A memorial service for Joe will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2020 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 604 S 5th Street, Leesville, LA. After the memorial, a graveside service with full military honors will be held in the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 3348 University Pkwy. Leesville, LA.
