Peggy Wood Whitten Obituary

Peggy Wood Whitten, 86, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at her home in Derma, MS. Born March 11, 1934, in Calhoun County, she was the daughter of the late Scott and Annie Neal Wood. Peggy was a graduate of Calhoun City High School, and a member of Way of The Cross Church of the Nazarene in Calhoun City, MS. She married Troy Whitten in 1953, and they spend fifty-seven years together until his passing in 2010. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking and baking for her friends and family. Peggy also enjoyed cross stitching, and crossword puzzles but most of all she had a passion for studying God’s word, The Bible. Her faith, family and friends meant the most to her. Peggy was always engaged in her community and loved her church family. She was well-know for her caring heart and giving soul. Her memory will be cherished forever in the hearts of her family and friends. Pryor Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Whitten family. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at 2:00pm, at Pryor Funeral Home in Calhoun City. There will also be visitation time on Saturday from 12:00pm until service time at the funeral home. Bro. Jimmy Vance and Bro. John Meeks will be officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Calhoun City. Serving as pallbearers will be Dustin Belk, Jai McVay, Jaden McVay, Troy Whitten, Michael Whitten Jr, Jerry Vance, and Adam Gaskin. Peggy leaves behind her son, Bro. Michael Whitten, Sr. and wife Laura Whitten of Calhoun City, MS; daughter Dr. Kimberly Whitten of Joppa, MD; godson Keith Bodet of, TN; special friend Amanda McVay, four grandchildren, Michael Whitten Jr., and wife Darla Whitten, Tammy Whitten, Troy Whitten and wife Melissa Whitten, Tristyn Rutherford, Eight great-grandchildren, Jay, Alex, Deanna, Dustin, Jordan, Dakota, Hanna, Jaiden, and six great-great- grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Troy Whitten; sisters, Rogenia Clanton, Dolores Vance, Robbie Pepper, and brother Belon Wood.
