Katie L. Buchanan Obituary

Katie L. Buchanan was born April 21, 1939 in Desoto County, Mississippi to the late Lonnie and Rosie (Hill) Buchanan. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Walls, Mississippi under the leadership of Pastor J. T. Wynn. Katie sang in the church choir for a period of time. She relocated to Illinois in the late 1950's. She joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Zion, Illinois under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. B.J. Gaston where she was a member of the Willing Workers committee. She was employed at the VA Medical Center in North Chicago, IL and retired after nearly 30 years of service. Katie L. Buchanan departed this life on Saturday, October 17, 2020. She was preceded in death by her son, Melvin; her parents Lonnie and Rosie (Hill) Buchanan, four brothers: Rowland Hill, R.C. Johnson, Cleo Buchanan and Robert Buchanan, Sr. and one sister Ruby Givens. She leaves to cherish her memory, her sister Lovie (Hubert) Geater of North Chicago, IL and her brother Joe (Sadie) Buchanan of Beach Park, IL. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. The family of Katie L. Buchanan wishes to express a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Rolling Hills Manor for their kind and dedicated care of our beloved Katie for the past 9 months. A celebration of Katie's life will be held at a later date.
