Funeral services for Mrs. Jo Nelda Stamps, 88 of Cookeville and formerly of Monterey, will be held Saturday, October 24 at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Jeremy Flatt and Johnny Bowman will officiate. Jo Nelda’s family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 pm until service time at the funeral home. Due to COVID-19 social distancing and masks are encouraged. Jo Nelda passed away Thursday morning October 22, 2020 in Signature Health Care of Putnam County in Algood. She was born Monday November 30, 1931 in Bloomington Springs, TN to the late Robert Frazier and Mallie Rose Billingsley Vaughn. Jo Nelda was a long-time member of Monterey First Baptist Church and Cookeville Senior Center. She was a retired Water Clerk with the City of Monterey with over 25 years of service. Jo Nelda was always physically active and loved playing volleyball. Survivors include by her son, Rick (Jodi) Overstreet of Acworth, GA; daughter-in-law, Gina Overstreet of Farragut; sister, Linda (Don) Barker of Clermont, Fl; several nieces and nephews and special niece, Brenda Lee Schroeder of Cookeville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and father to her children, Estel Claude Oversteet II; second husband, George Stamps; son, Estel Claude “Skip” Overstreet III; and brothers, Ernest Vaughn, Richard Vaughn, and Grant Vaughn; sisters, Dorothy Hamrick, Helen Norden, Shirley, Crabtree, and Evelyn Cody. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
