Private memorial service for Shirley Freeman, 78, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 10:00am, Saturday, November 7, 2020, at the Salvation Army, with Major Mary Hunt officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Riverside Memorial Park, Aberdeen. Shirley died Monday, October 19, at Ava’s House, Sioux Falls, SD. Arrangements by Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street. Shirley Mae Bain was born April 12, 1942, to Alva and Lydia (Dobrick) Bain on the family farm near Aberdeen. She grew up and attended school at Country Trail School. Shirley loved to dance and met Merle James Freeman, Jr. at the Tacoma Park Pavillion. They were united in marriage on August 25, 1962, in Aberdeen. Shirley and Merle made their home in Aberdeen and she was a home maker. Over the years, Shirley also babysat for several families. After Merle died on September 6, 2008, Shirley moved to the Fifth Avenue Apartments. She lived there until moving to Ava’s House four weeks before she passed. Shirley loved to ride her Harley Davidson Motorcycle with Merle. She liked to go shopping and spending time with her friends. Shirley had a deep love for all of her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grateful for having shared Shirley’s life are her children: Tony Freeman, Aberdeen, Rick (Cala) Freeman, Sioux Falls, SD, Jim (Sonia) Freeman, Watertown, SD, and Lisa Lynn, Aberdeen; her grandchildren: David Freeman, Danny Freeman, Kaitlyn Salas, Joshua Freeman, Dustin Freeman, Sarah Freeman, Nathaniel Freeman, Tamara (Jaques) Matthews, Laci (Derrick) Jones, Braidan Lynn and Traisen Lynn; several great-grandchildren; and six siblings: Betty Allmendinger, Kathleen Allmendinger, Susan (Robert) Sayer, Carol Grovenburg, Mike (Tammy) Bain and Larry Bain. Preceding Shirley in death are her husband, Merle Freeman, Jr.; her parents: Alvin and Lydia Bain; one son: David Freeman; and five siblings: Arnold Bain, Donald Bain, Robert Bain, Mary Pudwill, and Ella Bain.
