Helen Virginia Bivens Obituary

Helen Virginia Bivens, 92 of Boise quietly slipped away on October 17, 2020. She was born in Boise to Ernest and Hazel Hubert on January 29, 1928. She joined brother Russell, and sisters Ruth and Mary. She was raised in Boise, graduating from Boise High School in 1946. As a child she enjoyed family camping trips to the mountains and singing with the Boise Madrigals. Mom had a beautiful voice and music was something that brought her great joy her entire life. Helen was first introduced in 1941 to David Bivens at a cabin complex in McCall. They were married on March 27, 1949, at her parent’s home. They celebrated 70 years of marriage with a special celebration with many friends and family in March of 2019. Helen moved to Payette with David after they were married. She embraced the life as a rancher’s wife. She was a fabulous cook and cooked many meals for her family, friends and of course the ranch cowboys. Mom rode one of Dad’s horses once or twice and announced that was enough for her! She became actively involved in the local Friday Musical singing group and enjoyed spring productions each year. She was a lifetime member of the Lorraine Chapter of the Eastern Star and former worthy matron. Helen worked as the secretary for the Payette United Methodist Church until she and David relocated to Meridian. She then worked for Hillview United Methodist Church until she retired. She sang with the Hillview Church Choir for many years. Helen was a member of the Meridian United Methodist Church. After moving to Meridian, she joined the Sounds of Music (formerly the Boise Madrigals) and sang and performed with them every year. It was quite a production and she had Dad helping the group by being a “stage hand.” She became a member of the P.E.O. and enjoyed the friendships she made through that organization. Helen researched her genealogy and was accepted into the D.A.R. through her patriot ancestors. Her grandchildren enjoyed sleepovers at Grandma and Grandpa’s house as they knew they would have cookies and ice cream before bed and wake up to waffles, bacon and eggs. She loved her grandchildren! She is survived by her son Bill (Beth), granddaughters Kathryn and Heather, son Robert (Tami), grandsons Ryan and Shane, daughter Kriss (Steve Cloyd) and grandson Tylor. She has seven great grandchildren, Michael, Sicily, Isabella, Cameron, Sydney, Braxton and Mackenzie. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews that were a special part of her life. Memorials may be made to the Idaho Humane Shelter or the P.E.O. Sisterhood. We wish to MorningStar Assisted Living Facility of Boise. We also wish to thank Keystone Hospice for their compassionate care. Mom, you loved us unconditionally and opened your heart and home to our families, friends and many pets. We know that you and Dad are together and you are happily singing again. 3.
