Edward Allan Worthing

We are sad to announce the passing of Edward Allan Worthing on Sunday, October 18 at the age of 93 at the Royal Alex Hospital in Edmonton.

          Al was born in Youngstown, Alberta on January 20, 1927 to George Bertram and Sarah Myrtle Worthing (nee Bignell). Al was the second oldest of 11 siblings. His six sisters were Lorna, Connie, Shirly, Joy, Violet and Myrtle. The brothers were Wayne, Dennis, Ralph, George (Johnny), and Reg.

          Al Moved to Edson in 1946 from Irma with his bride Amanda (nee Neufeld) to work with the railroad. He then went to work for Mr. Wilson hauling fuel and feed. Their first child, Carol, was born in 1947 when they were living in one end of Mr. Wilson’s feed store. Al went from working for Mr. Wilson to starting into business as the White Rose bulk agent. Soon after he started up a trucking business called Worthing Transport which grew into one of the major employers in Edson. Along with his other accomplishments he became a well respected pilot who lead water bombers fighting forest fires and was involved in searches for lost hunters as well as flying stranded people out of flooded areas in his 185 Cessna.

          Al is lovingly remembered by his daughter Carol and Reynold Rolheiser of Smoky Lake, his son Dale and Donna  of Rosevear, his son Dwight and Pat of Rosevear, son Ted and Nicki of Whitecourt, daughter Tracy and Steve Pound of Kimberley B. C., and daughter Patty and Bill Hinchberger of Edmonton. He will also be missed by his 14 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren as well as an amazing number of friends.

          There will be a small private service with internment at the Edson cemetery. We hope to be able to gather next spring for a memorial service.
